Lord Shiva consuming the deadly Halahala poison to save the universe. This act of sacrifice earned him the name Neelkanth (meaning "Blue-Throated One").
Poseidon (/pəˈsaɪdən, pɒ-, poʊ-/;[1] Ancient Greek: Ποσειδῶν, romanised: Poseidôn) is one of the twelve Olympians in ancient Greek religion and mythology, presiding over the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses.[2] He was the protector of seafarers and the guardian of many Hellenic cities and colonies the world was divided by lot among Cronus' three sons; Zeus was given the sky, Hades the underworld, and Poseidon the sea, with the Earth and Mount Olympus belonging to all three.[2][5] In Plato's Timaeus and Critias, the legendary island of Atlantis was Poseidon's domain.
Neptune (Latin: Neptūnus [nɛpˈtuːnʊs]) is the god of freshwater and the sea in the Roman religion.[1] He is the counterpart of the Greek god Poseidon.[2] In the Greek-inspired tradition, he is a brother of Jupiter and Pluto, with whom he presides over the realms of heaven, the earthly world (including the underworld), and the seas.[3
The Legend of Halahala
According to Hindu scriptures like the Puranas, the gods (Devas) and demons (Asuras) were churning the Cosmic Ocean of Milk (Samudra Manthan) to obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality. They used the Mandara mountain as the churning rod and the great serpent Vasuki (who adorns Shiva's neck) as the rope.
During the intense churning process, a potent and destructive poison, known as Halahala or Kalakuta, emerged from the ocean before the Amrita. This poison was so lethal that it threatened to destroy all of creation and the entire universe.
Shiva's Intervention
Terrified, the gods and demons sought help from Brahma who directed them to Lord Shiva. Out of compassion for all living beings, Shiva agreed to consume the poison to mitigate its effects. As he drank the Halahala, his consort, Goddess Parvati, became anxious and gently held his throat to prevent the poison from spreading throughout his body or going down to his stomach.
The poison was thus contained in his throat, causing it to turn a deep blue color. Ever since this incident, Lord Shiva is also known as

Lord Pluto - The Sustainer - Vishnu - Hades
Hades (/ˈheɪdiːz/; Ancient Greek: ᾍδης, romanized: Hā́idēs, Attic Greek: [háːi̯dεːs], later [háːdeːs]), in the ancient Greek religion and mythology, is the god of the dead and riches and the King of the underworld, with which his name became synonymous.[2] Hades was the eldest son of Cronus and Rhea, although this also made him the last son to be regurgitated by his father.[3] He and his brothers, Zeus and Poseidon, defeated, overthrew, and replaced their father's generation of gods, the Titans,[4] and claimed joint sovereignty over the cosmos. Hades received the underworld, Zeus the sky, and Poseidon the sea, with the solid earth, which was long the domain of Gaia, available to all three concurrently. In artistic depictions, Hades is typically portrayed holding a bident[5] and wearing his helm with Cerberus, the three-headed guard-dog of the underworld, standing at his side.
Pluto - In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Pluto (Ancient Greek: Πλούτων, romanized: Ploútōn, Latin: Plūto or Plūton), also known as Dis Pater or Orcus, was the god of the dead and the king of the underworld. The name was originally an epithet or theonym for Hades in ancient Greek religion and mythology, although Pluto was more associated with wealth and never used as a synonym for the underworld itself, representing a more positive concept of the god who presides over the afterlife. He was the eldest son of Saturn (Cronus) and Ops (Rhea), as well as the brother of Jupiter (Zeus) and Neptune (Poseidon).
While Pluto is commonly considered the Roman equivalent of Hades, the name Plouton was already used by the Greeks to designate Hades and was later adopted by the Romans for their god of the underworld, Dis Pater, which often means "Rich Father" and is perhaps a direct translation of Plouton. Pluto was also identified with the obscure god Orcus, name that the Romans adopted from the Etruscans and which, like Hades, was both for the god of the underworld and for the underworld as a place.
